Reigniting Your Sexual Health With MonaLisa Touch®

If you’re feeling less excited about sex than you used to feel, you’re not alone. Many women lose interest in sex because of changes in their bodies that occur as a result of the menopause, childbirth, vaginal dryness, and pain during sex.

Women whose desire for sex has been impacted by vaginal issues can benefit from a treatment known as vaginal rejuvenation with MonaLisa Touch non-surgical laser therapy.

Vaginal rejuvenation can help reignite your libido by making sex more comfortable and pleasurable.

Are you wishing you enjoyed sex more? Then read on. Your care providers at Women’s Healthcare of Princeton would like to tell you about this exciting treatment.

Vaginal rejuvenation

Vaginal discomfort during sex is a common concern for women. As you age and your estrogen levels decline, your vagina may become drier and less pliant. These changes may also occur after childbirth or as the result of various health conditions.

As your vagina loses its elasticity – a condition known as vaginal atrophy -- intercourse can cause pain and, in some cases, bleeding. Not surprisingly, when vaginal issues make sex uncomfortable, you start losing your interest in it.

Some women take hormone replacement therapy to improve their vaginal health after menopause. However, hormone replacement therapy isn’t the best choice for every woman because of their health history. And some women simply prefer not to take estrogen.

Vaginal rejuvenation is a non-hormonal, non-surgical procedure that revitalizes your vagina by increasing healthy tissue growth in the vaginal area. It helps reduce or eliminate the irritation, burning, pain, and itching that can accompany penetration and intercourse.

It can can help women who are experiencing painful intercourse, vaginal dryness or burning, loss of vaginal muscle tone, lichen sclerosus (a common postmenopausal skin condition), stress urinary incontinence (leaking urine when you laugh, sneeze, or cough), and chronic urinary tract infections.

MonaLisa Touch

The care providers at Women’s Healthcare of Princeton perform vaginal rejuvenation using the MonaLisa Touch laser therapy system. In fact, we were one of the first practices in the United States to offer MonaLisa Touch to patients, and Dr. Maria Sophocles is one of the most experienced MonaLisa Touch providers in the country.

MonaLisa Touch helps restore vaginal health by safely delivering fractional CO2 laser energy to the tissues of the vagina and the vulva (the vaginal opening).

What to expect

During a MonaLisa Touch treatment, your provider inserts a probe into your vagina. The probe delivers safe, gentle laser pulses that stimulate a healing response and encourages the production of new collagen in vaginal tissue.

Vaginal rejuvenation is a simple procedure. You receive your treatments here at the Women’s Healthcare of Princeton offices. A treatment takes less than five minutes and requires no anesthesia.

After your treatment

MonaLisa Touch is a gentle, non-surgical procedure with virtually no side effects. You can resume your normal activities immediately after your treatment.

The only recommendation we make is to refrain from having sexual intercourse for two or three days after a treatment. This gives your vaginal tissues time to undergo the rejuvenating healing process without disturbance.

Many women report noticeable symptom relief after just one treatment. However, additional treatments provide even more relief. On average, women have three treatments spaced about six weeks apart for optimal results.
